During antiquity, Arzew was known as Portus Magnus, it was a Roman port but it was not exactly at the location of the city today. It was on the banks of the city of Bethioua where it is possible to visit the Roman ruins of this ancient port today.Today Arzew is still a port but on a much larger scale because it has become an important industrial fishing port and dominates the entire eastern part of Arzew Bay where it extends on a sea fringe of 22 km.It has to be said that this huge port is very industrial and lacks attractions for the visitor, but it has the advantage of being an important economic engine for the city and the Oranese region. If the harbor itself does not have great interest for visitors, its charming lighthouse on an islet in the middle of the sea and not far from the shore is to be discovered because it is truly picturesque and can quickly be accessed through a fishing boat.In addition, the town of Arzew has good fish restaurants, one of which is the fountain of gazelles. On the road from Oran to visit the ruins of Bethioua, or to go to Mostaganem, take the time to stop Arzew and enjoy fish and seafood!
