Riffa, the second largest city in Bahrain, is now known for its royal residences. Before Manama took advantage of the capital invested during the British protectorate, Riffa was the city center of Bahrain. The heir of Ahmed Al Khalifa Al Fateh, who conquered the island in 1783, settled in Riffa. In 1812, in order to consolidate his power, he had a fortress built in his new capital. This fort is still present today and is one of the city's main tourist attractions. Today, 120,000 people live there, so the city has expanded considerably and divides into two parts, Riffa Est first, which houses the commercial heart of the city, fortress and the first private university reserved for women, the Royal Women's University. Riffa West is the center of Bahrain power, the King and his family there, as well as many ministers and personalities who have made fortune in finance. If Riffa is a dense urban fabric close enough to Manama's (skyscrapers), Riffa West is much more pleasant, with its large avenues lined with trees, royal palaces and luxurious houses. The development of the city is accompanied by an increased offer in terms of tourist infrastructure, so you will not lose your time spent at least half a day in the Royal City, to visit the heritage and the many museums that opened their doors.
