Situated 100 km from Vladivostok and 60 km east of the Chinese border, Usuryisk developed from 1913, with the arrival of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Today it is the second largest city in the Far East (173,000 inhabitants). A commercial food-processing platform, its specialities are sugar and distillery, which it exports to Russia, China and North Korea. A very important hub, it is home to a nationwide locomotive repair workshop. Its proximity to Vladivostok (via the A-370 motorway or by train) and its archaeological heritage make it an interesting stopover. A provincial town that is not lacking in charm!
