Jagdalpur is the capital of the Bastar district. The town is home to the Danteshwari temple, one of fifty-two shrines dedicated to Shakti. The Kotumsar cave and its shivalingam are another Jagdalpur attraction. However, the real interest of the region lies in the many ethnic minorities who still live here. These are aboriginal tribes with ancestral lifestyles and customs. Although it is rarely permitted to visit their villages, members of these tribes can be seen at the various haat (markets) in the south of the state. It's best to enlist the services of a local guide to meet them.
