Located in the Sipaliwini district on the banks of the eponymous river, Kabalebo is a jurisdiction of Suriname, i.e. an administrative and political division (the country's second largest territorial entity after the districts). It has a population of almost 3,000. Be careful not to confuse the term "ressort" with " resort", as Kabalebo also boasts its own tourist accommodation facility, the Kabalebo Nature resort, built in the jungle in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. Although economic activity in Kabalebo is underdeveloped, there is the large Backhuis Mountain bauxite mine nearby, in the Bakhuis Mountains.
