Batea, a town in the Terra Alta region, has a picturesque historic center that preserves its medieval architecture of winding streets, stone walls, arcades and covered porches. The remarkable Carrer Major, the entrance to the old town, has a succession of arcades from the medieval period that once housed the old market. The Carrer del Mig is also noteworthy for its beautiful Gothic arcades that alternate with charming stone houses. Near the Sant Roc gate, a vestige of the old wall, you can take a look at the baroque chapel of the Mare de Déu del Portal, the patron saint of Batea. The Gothic parish church of Sant Miquel Arcàngel, with its imposing size and elegant neoclassical façade, dominates the village. Nearby, lovers of old stones can also visit Pinyeres, an abandoned village where the church of the Transfiguration of the Senyor, built in the 13th century, stands. If Batea has a rich historical heritage, it is also an important wine producer. The surrounding fields are covered with vineyards. For wine tourism enthusiasts, Batea and its surroundings are home to more than a dozen wineries that invite you to taste the wines of Terre Alta! We have listed some of our favorites here.
