With just over 6,000 inhabitants, Ulldecona is a quiet town in the Montsià county dominated by the remains of its castle of Arabic origin, which was reconquered at the beginning of the 12th century by Ramon Berenguer IV and later became an important commandery of the Hospitaller order. Next to it is the church dedicated to the Mare de Déu dels Angels. In the historic center, some buildings are worth seeing, such as the Gothic church of Sant Lluc, built in the 14th-15th centuries, or the Casa de la Feligresa, designed by César Martinell, an interesting modernist building. In the surrounding area, you should not miss the Ermita de la Pietat, located in the exceptional setting of the Serra de Godall. 500 meters from the hermitage, the rock paintings of Ulldecona, one of the best preserved examples of Levantine art in Catalonia, classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1998. There is a hostel, a bar and a picnic area with barbecues where you can eat. A little further down the road, the rock art interpretation center provides information on the subject. Finally, the tourist office (Passeig de l'Estació, 6 - www.turismeulldecona.com) organizes weekly guided tours of Ulldecona.
