Neighboring Tortosa, the village of Roquetes is the main gateway to the Els Ports Natural Park. It is part of the Baix Ebre county. It is here that the administration offices and a tourist information point about the natural park are located. From Roquetes, about 20 km from the village, the ascent to Mount Caro begins, the highest point of the Els Ports massif, which rises to 1,441 meters. At the entrance to the massif, the viewpoint of El Portell offers a breathtaking view. A must-see! The visit to the natural park is an opportunity for beautiful hikes through idyllic preserved landscapes. From Roquetes, you can reach the Cova Avellanes recreational area, the starting point for several hikes. The routes are all marked with signs and wooden markers. To find out more about the possibilities of hiking in the park (especially about the conditions for climbing Mount Caro), go to the Els Ports Nature Park Information Center (Avinguda de la Val de Zafán) for its small permanent exhibition giving a fairly complete picture of the park and/or to the website www.parcsnaturals.gencat.cat. You can also go to the town hall of Roquetes (Av. Diputació) to pick up some useful tourist brochures. The website of the municipality is also very well supplied. Visit it by typing: www.roquetes.cat
