Alfara de Carles, with its 350 inhabitants, is a quiet village that flourishes in the heart of the Parc Natural dels Ports. The cave paintings of the Cova Pintada, discovered in 1914 by the French archaeologist Henri Breuil and classified by Unesco since 1998, show us that the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. We can also stop at the site of the remains of the medieval castle of Alfara de Carles. Nearby, hikers are advised to go to the Font Nova recreational area, from where several easy hiking routes start. The Caro refuge (1,090 m above sea level) will allow you to sleep in the heart of the park!
