On the eastern slope of the Els Ports mountain range, Paüls is a small mountain village of about 600 inhabitants, which belongs to the Baix d'Ebre county. In the heights of the village, with its steep streets, are the remains of the old Arab castle, of which only a few sections of the wall remain today. Paüls has a parish church of Gothic origin dedicated to the Virgin Mary, probably built in the 13th century. At the entrance to the village, a sign indicates the direction of the hermitage chapel of Sant Roc (18th century) and the recreational area of the same name, which is about two kilometers from Paüls. The area is mostly frequented by hikers: for example, you can follow the path of the "Sant Roc route" (1 hour) for a pleasant walk in the mountains through pines, oaks and poplars. The hiking routes are signposted. There are many possibilities from Paüls! Brochures and other tourist information about Paüls and its surroundings are available at the town hall (Plaça Major, 3) and at www.pauls.cat Cherry festival. Between the end of May and the beginning of June, Paüls organizes its cherry festival. It is an opportunity to taste different preparations and recipes, from jam to liqueur, including cakes, and to discover this key product of local agriculture. Meals, exhibitions, animations and popular dances complete the festivities.
