Gandesa is the capital of the Terra Alta region and is famous for its wine production, which is protected under the DO Terra Alta designation, and for its amazing modernist cooperative, a monumental work by Cesar Martinell, architect of the El Pinell de Brai agricultural cooperative. In the historic center, we will visit the Church of the Assumption, which has a Romanesque style of transition. Also worth seeing in the church square is the old town hall, which preserves a Gothic style and is now a cultural center, and the Castellà Palace, which belonged to the Knights Templar before being turned into a makeshift prison in the 19th century. Nearby, the Iberian village of Colle del Moro and the sanctuary of La Fontcalda, where the thermal spring of the same name flows, are worth a visit. Note that the tourist office (Av/ Catalunya 3) offers guided tours of the city center. More information at www.terraalta.cat/gandesa Festivities. On the festive side, on the first weekend of November, Gandesa organizes its wine festival (www.festadelvi.cat). In addition, gourmets will not fail to enjoy the traditional local sweets with liqueur, honey or almonds. And on January 17, during the Sant Antoni festival, you can watch the parade of shepherds, donkeys and "baconets" of Sant Antoni, a colorful celebration!
