Benissanet is a quiet village in the Ribera d'Ebre region, where agriculture and the production of fruit, such as cherries and almonds, shape poetic landscapes where fruit trees abound. Like Miravet, it is also a producer of traditional ceramics, which can be seen in the workshop of Jordi Avante, located on the road between Benissanet and Miravet. For history lovers and the curious, the anti-aircraft shelter La Font Gran is worth a visit, as it bears witness to the strategic role of Benissanet in the Battle of the Ebro. It is one of the most important shelters in the region. On January 17, Benissanet celebrates Sant Antonio with a festival in which the inhabitants pass in front of the church with their animals so that the priest can give them his blessing. More information at the tourist office (C/ Gaudí, 1 - www.benissanet.cat) The peaches of the Ribera d'Ebre, mainly produced in Benissanet and Miravet, are known to ripen before their Catalan neighbors. Their characteristic red color has even been the subject of a popular tale called "Jordi and the scent of the peach". It is the specific climate of the region, hot in summer and mild in winter, which favors this early ripening. Produced without the use of pesticides, the peaches of Benissanet are harvested by hand using traditional techniques. The town is the first producer in Catalonia and its peaches have a controlled geographical designation. At the beginning of July, the town organizes a peach fair!
