Flix is a town in the Ribera d'Ebre region, located in the heart of a meander of the river Ebro. Thus, twice the river borders the town with its calm waters. The arrival of the electrochemical industry in this strategic enclave at the end of the 19th century changed the town in many ways. The Castell Nou, a castle erected by the Carlists in 1837 to control river navigation, is a silent witness to the Battle of the Ebro that shook the valley in 1938. The city was bombed and the inhabitants built a dozen anti-aircraft shelters to protect themselves. In the historical center, we can take a look inside the church of the Assumption with its Gothic vaults, in the small square of the town, and at the remains of an oil mill mentioned in the 17th century. Today, Flix lives to the rhythm of its natural spaces, including the Sebes Nature Reserve, to be discovered at the bend of the wooden footbridges and the observatories. The Information Center provides information on the area and the hundreds of species of birds that inhabit it. Don't miss the chance to kayak or paddle on the calm waters of the meander! You can also cycle along the historic Camí de Sirga or hike along the GR99. This long-distance hiking trail follows the course of the Ebro River for 1,200 km through undergrowth, forests and unspoiled scrubland. At sunset, go to the belvedere of the Flix meander to enjoy a singular panorama to immortalize in a photo!
