El Montmell is a charming little town of 1,300 inhabitants in the county of Baix Penedès. Its name probably comes from the Latin monte macellum, which means "dry mountain". One comes here for the tranquility of the place, to visit its few religious buildings, to walk with the nose to the wind in the hollow of the hills (many possible walks, on foot or by bike), and for the very pretty rural lodging "the house of the cherries"!
