Sant Jaume d'Enveja is a modern town of about 3,500 inhabitants, located in the heart of the Ebro Delta Natural Park, opposite Deltebre. Since 2010, a modern bridge crosses the Ebro to connect the two towns. Thus, the limits of Sant Jaume d'Enveja end in the north, at the border of the Ebro, and stretch from the island of Gracia to the eastern end of the Delta, where Cape Tortosa and the island of Buda stand out, a natural area of 1,000 hectares characterized by its rich biodiversity. If its urbanism is not of great tourist interest, the surrounding nature has all the attractions of the wetlands of the Delta. Bathed by the Mediterranean Sea to the east, it offers a sandy coastline dotted with lagoons, where the Platja de Migjorn (and its observatory) and the Platja del Serrallo lie, away from the most popular tourist areas. The population of Sant Jaume d'Enveja grew in the early 19th century with the emergence of salt mining. Nowadays, the town has turned fully to rice cultivation. On July 25, Sant Jaume is celebrated, the patron saint of the town to whom the parish church built at the beginning of the 20th century is dedicated. To rent a bike by the hour or by the day, go to Delta Natura (C/ Unió 76-78 - www.deltanatura.blogspot.com). And for more information on the attractions of the city and its surroundings, go to the tourist office (Carrer Carles I, 22 - www.santjaumeturisme.cat).
