Roda de Berà is a small coastal town with a population of just over 6,000 inhabitants that probably takes its name from the Count of Berà of Barcelona, who came from a noble family in the late Middle Ages, although other hypotheses are still being studied. Located on the ancient Via Augusta , which once connected the Roman colony of Tarraco to Rome, it is still possible to admire a monument from that sumptuous era, the Triumphal Arch, known as the Arch of Berà, part of the archaeological complex of Tarragona, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000. You can also visit a hermitage and a church, both from the medieval period, as well as the castle of Berà. But Roda de Berà is also an important summer tourist resort, with holidaymakers flocking to its fine sandy beaches and campsites. In the summer months, the beachfronts of Roda tend to be crowded with a family crowd. More information at the town's tourist office (Plaça de la Sardana) and at www.rodadebera.cat
