Surrounded by wooded mountains, Montella is famous for its chestnuts, which have a PGI, but also for mushrooms, black truffles, hazelnuts and various cheeses. There are several interesting buildings in the centre: in the main square, the Abiosi palace has Italian-style gardens, while the church of Santa Maria del Piano has preserved its 16th-century carved walnut door. For a breathtaking view, climb (by car or on foot for the more courageous) to the Santissimo Salvatore sanctuary, which overlooks the entire valley. On a clear day, you can even see the Tyrrhenian Sea.
