Located in the north of the Berguedà region, La Pobla de Lillet (1,200 inhabitants) is a small town with a strong industrial past. In addition to its thriving textile industry, it was also a site of lignite mining and cement production. The great factory of the time, the Asland factory, belonged to the famous industrialist Eusebi Güell, known as Gaudí's patron. The city retains a fascinating heritage of Catalan modernism, with the Catllaràs refuge and the Artigas Gardens designed by Gaudí. The latter were abandoned after the Civil War, and it wasn't until the 1990s that the city took on the task of restoring them.
