Vilanova i la Geltrú (65,000 inhabitants) was born from the merger of two towns: the one formed around the castle of la Geltrú and the Vila Nova de Cubelles. In the 19th century, the Barri de Mar district underwent a great development thanks to the trade of the "indianos". It is nicknamed "Little Havana". On Passeig Marítim, colonial-style buildings and fishermen's houses bear witness to this past. The fishing and leisure port is one of the most important in Catalonia. There are several restaurants where you can taste the local speciality, the xató.
