Known as "Caldetes", this commune of 2,900 inhabitants is considered the cradle of tourism in Catalonia. Indeed, by the end of the 19th century, many visitors had already come to enjoy its beaches and the benefits of its thermal springs. Among its illustrious visitors was the Catalan poet Jacint Verdaguer. The many modernist buildings along the seafront promenade, particularly on the Passeig dels Anglesos (Promenade des Anglais), bear witness to this radiant past. Since then, Caldes d'Estrac has been one of Barcelona's most popular coastal resorts.
