Approximately 20 km northwest of Figueres and accessible via the GI-510 and GI-511, this small village of over 250 inhabitants lies in the upper valley of the River Muga, the river par excellence of the Empordà plain, which rises in the Garrotxa region. Of particular note are its well-preserved 16th-century walls, with four towers offering fine views over the valley, and three entrance gates; its medieval, almost triangular layout; and its old bridge, dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. The town's medieval heritage includes the Romanesque church of Sant Llorenç and the church of Santa Maria de Palau, classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest.
