The Punta de la Gavina is alanged west of Formentera, between Punta de Sa Pedrera and Punta Rasa, and is characterized by its defensive tower built in the eighteenth century. From this strategic point, it was possible to monitor the Strait of Es Freus, which links Ibiza to Formentera, S' Espalmador and the port of La Savina. Restored in 2008, the irregular structure tower dominates a desert area surrounded by rocks. At the base of the second level is the entrance door of the tower which allows direct access to the second floor. It was by lighting a fire of joy to the thick smoke that the guards gave the alarm in case of attack.
