Kangerlussuaq (literally "the great fjord" because of its location inland at the bottom of a 100 km fjord) has one of Greenland's two international airports. Kangerlussuaq is a popular destination because of its proximity to the ice cap at 25 km (the easiest and closest access to the country at only 10 minutes flight) and its rich fauna of musk oxen, reindeer, arctic foxes, falcons, eagles, ravens and gyrfalcons. The economy depends almost entirely on the airport and tourism industry. Kangerlussuaq is also located in an area particularly rich in aurora borealis. They are visible during the winter months and are an unforgettable sight.
