Cape Spear ("Cap d'Espoir" in French) is the easternmost point of Canada, an unmissable visit for tens of thousands of tourists who, every year, dream of taking a picture of themselves here to immortalize the feat. In fact, this place is closer to Paris than to Vancouver. The Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site is also located here. Built in 1836, it was the second lighthouse in Newfoundland after Ahmerst, and although a new lighthouse was built in 1955 to take over the job, it is the old one that is open to visitors. The site is accessible year-round, but the lighthouse can only be visited from June to early October.
