Half an hour south of the city, on either side of the road linking Dubai to Al Aïn, the dunes stretch as far as the eye can see. Admittedly, it's not the immense orange-red Rub-al-Khali desert that stretches from Abu Dhabi towards Oman, but you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city. On the one hand, the open desert is a real playground for 4X4s and picnics, and on the other is the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, the Emirates' first national park, measuring 225 km². Populated by oryx and gazelle, a visit to the latter requires the services of an authorized agency or accommodation at the luxurious Al Maha Resort.
