A visit to this small village gives an idea of the confrontation between the Counts of Empúries and the royalty. The highest part of the village is home to the castle built by the Counts of Empúries in the late 13th century, in particular in opposition to the castle built by the kings on the Montgrí massif. Every year, its facade is the setting for the theatrical performance "The Flag of Catalonia", which recounts this confrontation, and a walk around it allows visitors to discover the castle. Another must-see in this village is the pretty Romanesque church of Sant Joan de Bellcaire, with its mix of Paleochristian, Pre-Romanesque, Romanesque and Gothic styles.
