This city of more than 60 000 inhabitants is, like its neighbours, a little known seaside resort, located one hour from Itanhaém by local bus. Peruíbe would like to say "the shark river" in the native Tupi language, this people who lived in the region before colonization. The city counts the ruins of Abarebebê, identified as the first church built in Brazil, where, in 1549, lazlo the Jesuit father Leonardo Nunes to convert Indians to Catholicism.
