HIGH TEMPLE

This is the highest temple on the Lamanai site, standing at 33 m high. You'll have to work up the courage to climb the structure, which offers a magnificent view of the surrounding canopy and the New River Lagoon: on a clear day, you can see the hills of Quintana Roo in neighbouring Mexico in the distance. This is the highest pre-Classical temple in the Mayan world, and it stood out from the New River, making it a symbol of power to impress any traders sailing nearby.
