This village will please the traveller who likes to discover authentic Elbois places. The granite from the nearby quarries was used for the Pantheon of Rome and later for the columns of the Duomo of Pisa. This same granite is everywhere in Sant'Ilario: stairs, doorposts, gates, flowerpots... including pieces from all over the surrounding countryside. Hikes are a must along the paths that explore the southern slope of Mount Capanne and its spurs, leading to spectacular views such as the rocky balconies of Calanche (903 metres) and Filicaie (870 metres), ancient granite quarries.
