This town is called Звечан/Zvečan in Serbian and Zveçani/Zveçan in Albanian (same pronunciation: "zvetchane"). It has a population of 1,300 (99% Serbian) and is located 3.5 km northwest of Mitrovica.Placed at 545 m above sea level, Zvečan/Zveçan is home to Kosovo's most important industrial site: the Trepča Group smelter, an outdated factory that processes zinc and lead. But don't be put off by this huge 306-meter-long gray mass bristling with chimneys: the town is rather green and pleasant with the medieval fortress of Zvečan towering over it.
