Nestling between the River Po and its tributary the Taro, Roccabianca is famous for its 15th century fortress built by Pier Maria Rossi, head of the army and Count of San Secondo, for his mistress Bianca Pellegrini who made it her winter residence. Count Rossi also began an important publishing activity around Parma, with the construction of the castles of Torrechiara (Bianca's summer residence) and San Secondo (the residence of his lawful wife), as well as several churches. It is also the homeland of Giovannino Guareschi, the father of the adventures of Don Camillo and Peppone; his birthplace can be visited (frazione di Fontanelle).
