This agricultural center was the official residence of the Counts Rossi until 1817. The most famous of them, Pier Maria Rossi, was a famous army commander in the pay of the Visconti of Milan in the 15th century and had several castles built or converted. Among them, the Rocca dei Rossi, a magnificent fortress decorated with frescoes by the painter Giulio Romano, himself a disciple of Raphael. If the Rocca alone justifies a stop in San Secondo, you can also stop in the surrounding countryside to admire the Pieve di San Genesio, a small Romanesque church that was founded in the 9th century and stands isolated in the middle of the fields.
