Norman Wells is a small oil town of 778 people. It is the regional center of the Sahtu region of the Northwest Territories. Located north of the Mackenzie River, it offers views of the Franklin and Richardson Mountain valleys. It is also the gateway to the Canol Trail, an arduous 355-kilometre hiking trail through pristine landscape. It is also the starting point for canoe trips on several nearby rivers. Visit the town's museum to learn about its history as one of only two communities in the Mackenzie River Valley not tied to the fur trade.
