Dhiffushi is one of the local islands in the North Malé Atoll. It is located 36 kilometers north of Malé and is home to 1,200 inhabitants. There is a very family atmosphere on this island where everyone knows each other. It is the first local island in the Maldives to have opened a guest house (Happy Life Maldives Guest House). The island has a clinic, coffee shops, a school, souvenir shops, a football club and two beaches. The northern beach is open to all and bikinis are not allowed. Rather small, it is a bit dangerous, because only 10 meters from the pass through which boats pass. The second, located in the south of the island, is reserved for Western tourists. On the other hand, it receives all the detritus brought by the tides, especially during the western monsoon season. A small, pristine sandbank emerges at low tide. Dhiffushi Island has one of the largest lagoons in the Maldives and a picnic on a secluded sandbank is one of the must-do activities on the island. Don't miss a trip to Vihamasfaru, otherwise known as 'Turtle Point' to see the sea turtles. The island is also a good base for surfers, with nearly 11 spots nearby, but it is essential to get there by boat. If the opening to tourism guarantees an income to the inhabitants, fishing remains the first economic source of the islanders.
