If the Loire has shaped and kept the Nièvre alive for centuries, the Canal latéral steals the show for the duration of this walk. From Nevers, a 14-kilometre (about 1.5-hour) cycle route links the city to the town of Le Guétin by following the old towpath that runs alongside the water. From the Nevers bridge, the track is completely safe and accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. The route winds along a flat terrain, until it meets the Allier at the entrance to Le Guétin.
