The small island of Great Cumbrae is very close to the coast and can easily be reached in a day. The 18 km road around the island is not very popular with motorists, but it is very popular with cyclists because of its gentle hills and views of the area. Millport is the only village you will find. The Cathedral of the Isles was built here in 1848 and has some beautiful decorative elements, such as its colorful stained glass windows. If you want to learn more about local history, stop by the Museum of Cumbraes (College Street, free). For a bite to eat or a drink, Frasers Bar is an excellent pub, both for food and real ales (7 Cardiff Street, open 7 days a week from 11am to midnight, 1am Thursday to Saturday).
