On the road to the Barva volcano, a few kilometres north of Heredia and before arriving in San José de la Montaña, the small village of Barva deserves a stop to the traditional, omnipresent masks. Giant Moorish faces dominate the main square, while more or less sympathetic figures indicate the names of the streets. Here, no problem to find its way! The roofs are low and the style of the very colonial village. If you are seduced by these masks, don't miss the curious sculptures of the faces of former Costa Rican presidents (those from Heredia), San Pablo, east of Heredia.
