Surrounded by hills covered with vineyards, the charming medieval village of Rivalta develops around its imposing castle (11th century), on the banks of the river Trebbia. The tiny village has been restored and its streets, forbidden to cars, are lined with beautiful stone houses. The complex is dominated by a watchtower dating back to the year 1000 and by the brick façade of the 15th century church of San Martino, which houses paintings by the painter Ferrante di Bologna. Rivalta Trebbia is located in the Parco Fluviale del Trebbia, a protected area that stretches from Rivergaro in the south to the confluence of the Trebbia with the Po, suitable for birdwatching and fishing.
