This small commune of 2 000 inhabitants owes its name to its castle of the th century, Castell d'en Galí, which only remains ruins. Its historic centre retains beautiful stone houses and a th century church. Vell has long been a place for pilgrims travelling to Montserrat. They stopped at La Casa Amigant, a beautiful Gothic building which once housed a pilgrims'hostel, now transformed into an ethnological museum.
