UNIVERSITY OF CERVERA

Monuments to visit

It is probably the most emblematic building of Cervera due to its historical importance. In 1716, Philippe V removed the six existing Catalan universities and created a single centre for studies in Cervera, a town that supported him during the succession war. Cervera became the intellectual centre of Catalonia for more than a century, until the university was transferred to Barcelona in 1842. This monumental construction of the th century now houses various cultural and educational institutions. On the exterior façade of Baroque style, you can see a crown symbol of monarchical-power.
