With its 15 000 inhabitants, Fraga is the capital of the Bajo Cinca region. This is where the famous Battle of Fraga took place, during which the Almoravids won an overwhelming victory over the Christian army led by Alphonse 1 st Le, King of Aragon, on 17 July 1134. The importance of this battle is that it was the last victory won by the Almoravids in the Iberian Peninsula. A few years later, Fraga will be regained by Count Raimond-Bérenger IV in Barcelona, to which the church of San Pedro must be built. Originally at the site of the ancient mosque of Fraga, its original structure corresponds to the characteristics of the Romanesque style, although the numerous subsequent changes introduced Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements. Another monument worthy of interest, the Montcada Palace is a stone building of the th century, typical of the Aragonese architecture of the Renaissance.
