This small town originally consisted only of a simple watchtower to control the watering of the fields, as well as a generous spring which gives its name to the commune ("great spring"). In the 14th century, when the village had a population of about 30 and its own church, it was sold to Navarrete. It was not until the seventeenth century that the town regained its independence. Nowadays, the town is entirely devoted to wine. Numerous bodegas are installed there. As you cross the town, you will pass by the beautiful Fernández Bazan Palace and the church of Santa María, both from the 17th century.
