An hour and a half north of Seattle (130 km) on Fidalgo Island, Anacortes is a crossing point between Puget Sound to the South and the San Juan Islands in the north. With its 16 000 inhabitants and a pristine nature, the city is a haven of tranquillity. Three bridges connect Fidalgo Island to the mainland. The Washington State Ferry network connects the San Juan Islands, as well as the Canadian city of Sidney, neighbouring Victoria. You can stop there and walk in one of the many parks or marinas in the city. Anacortes offers over 2 000 hectares of forest, beaches, lakes, swamps and sea fronts. If you still have time, a walk in Old Town will allow you to admire the charm of its th century buildings.
