Tiagba designates both a branch of the Ahizi ethnic group surrounded by the Ebrié lagoon in the sub-prefecture of Jacqueville, and the lakeside village on an island. Initially, the Tiagbas are said to have originated from the central-western region of the country where they lived in harmony with the Bétés, the Didas and the Gagous. But quarrels related to land and also to women frequently opposed them. It was following a tragedy that degenerated into a fratricidal war that the Tiagbas fled their region of origin to settle on the banks of the Ebrié lagoon, landing on an island formerly called Krok Bo ("Goose Island"). The term tiagba would be a distortion of tiag-aba: "those whom war has driven from their homes".Most of the communications are by pirogue by lagoon, to the coastal road, Grand-Lahou via the Azagny canal, Dabou or Jacqueville. Heavy traffic allows goods from the surrounding area to be transported throughout the week
