On the road between Dondra and Tangalla, this small town of over 54,000 people is home to a long sandy beach protected by reefs and sandbars, making it safe for swimming. Be sure to visit the Wewurukannala Vihara, a colorful Buddhist temple that houses a 50-meter tall statue of Buddha in a sitting position. You can even go inside the statue to reach the top and enjoy a spectacular view of the surroundings. But to do this you will first have to go through the "tunnel of hell", which represents what awaits the faithful if they succumb to temptation!
