A carbon copy and scale model of Mount Saint Helens in the United States, La Soufrière de Saint-Vincent is located to the north of the mother island. Rising to an altitude of 1,220 metres, it is considered an explosive volcano. In April 2021, the volcano erupted again after 42 years of inactivity. The region was covered in ash, and 16,000 inhabitants had to be evacuated from their homes to safety zones. The column of ash and gas was up to 20 kilometers high. Since then, the volcano has entered a new phase of dormancy, and can be visited again after a slightly strenuous hike.
