Uda Walawe Village, also known as Udawalawa, is located in Ratnapura District, 8 kilometers west of the main entrance to Uda Walawe National Park, on the southwestern shore of the huge reservoir. This artificial lake was created in 1969 following the construction of an impressive dam and hydroelectric plant on the Walawe River. It is the third largest reservoir on the island. The village has a large number of accommodations but also the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home, where you can watch the feeding of orphaned elephant calves that transit through the center until they become independent.
