Before the American Revolution, Romulus was controlled by two indigenous tribes: Les Seneca and the Cayuga. In 1779, the region's Aboriginal villages were destroyed. Romulus includes the site of a former Iroquois village of the Cayuga tribe. The city is named after the founder of Rome.
