Khaplu is a small, picturesque village with apricot and apple trees and located on the banks of the river Shyok. At the feet of the mountains, traditional stone houses are surrounded by wheat fields, green and fertile, and surplombées by steep peaks. In this charming village is one of Pakistan's oldest mosques. A former stronghold of Buddhism, Khaplu is now populated by different sects of Islam, Sufi, Shia, Sunni and Ismaili.
