The peaceful village of Shigar is located in a valley that was once an independent kingdom. The only testimony that remains of this time is the fort of Shigar, which the Aga Khan Foundation has renovated and which has finally been transformed into a beautiful hotel. The village conceals some small treasures, such as wooden mosques, ruins of a Buddhist monastery and the th century Buddhist inscriptions carved in rocks.
